City of Angels...

... fine place to begin work on one of my favorite jobs to date, wouldn't you say? I am currently sitting at a Starbucks in the heart of Los Angeles, near the ritzy Grove shopping Center and mere minutes from Rodeo. Ah the life, I feel like every morning I have to pinch myself to make sure it isn't a dream, a deluded me pretending to inhabit the life I've always yearned for. Nope, I'm awake, tis real, and I am in a constant state of adrenanline rush. (which is nutty, considering i just gave up caffeine!)

Rehearsals for my gig as vocalist with Princess Cruise Line began a two days ago, though technically I have been inhabiting SoCal for a about four. Drove down Wednesday morning (after awakening at four AM to hit the road, mind you... I'll admit, this was not a de-caf day!), arriving around noon time at my fabulous apartments... and by by fabulous, I mean FABULOUS. We are sharing oxygen with all yours and mine favorite reality show Celebs: The American Idols, the Dancing with the Stars, the So you Think You can Dancers, And the Hills. Yes, trashy MTV stars doth filmeth hear. It's a trip! Settled in Wednesday, hit the state of the art gym, stocked up with the groceries, and got to meet my fellow female entertainer, who will be my flatmate these two weeks. Lelani, a Princess Cruise vet and equally exhausted, arrived, we ate, we crashed. My first day as an LA girl.

Day two began with a trip to my new favorite gym, coffee (oops) and heading off to rehearsal. So glad I have a car here, public trans would drive me batty! Played chauffeur to Lelani and Jim, a male vocalist from Atlanta who is also a cruise expert, having done two other contracts with PC as well as a few other ships. We began right away with staging/choreo of one the easier shows, "Tribute". I do love this show as there is a segment of Beatles tunes, which makes me think of my Dad and our shared affinity for the 60's Brit Boyband. A bit of movement, including a fun cane dance to the song "Candy Man", and, of course, unlimited amounts of diva riffing. This is the life.

Day three: The completion of "Tribute". Forgot to mention Scott, the other male singer. He and Lelani have been working together for always and they truly know the ropes. I am in good hands! So happy to feel as though things are coming together smoothly. You always feel, when something new begins, as if it is the first day of a new school and you are diving into uncharted waters (mixed metaphor, I know)but by some insane chance of fate, I don't feel out of place at all. I am happy with my job, utterly content with my co-workers, and feel so blessed to be working in a field that I absolutely adore!

So for now, it is weekend, time to kick back, drink some hot cocoa, and enjoy the botox and boob job parade of LA. I love life.

Till next time, peace, love, and Bev Hills 90210, baby!
